Figured Sycamore

Place of Origin: Europe

Description: Burls are formed through natural parasitic interactions involving bacteria or insects, creating highly prized ‘figured’ wood. Although European Maple is widespread, the occurrence of burls is extremely limited. Artisan utilizes Maple Burl, selecting logs with minimal defects to produce extraordinary veneers characterized by distinct, slender fiber motifs. Short-grain figures are traditionally termed ‘Violin-grade’ wood, essential for high-end string instruments. Meanwhile, the more expansive figures are the preferred choice for prestigious interiors in yachting, aviation, and luxury furniture.
Features: Due to its figured nature, Maple Burl is notoriously difficult to machine, as the surface can tear easily during production. It also requires an immediate drying process to prevent yellowing caused by photo-oxidation. Because of these variables, market-ready veneers of high quality are scarce. Although Maple Burl takes stains beautifully, achieving a uniform tone is a high-difficulty task. We solves this by using authentic European-dyed veneers, imported directly to ensure color consistency and structural integrity, specifically in our premium White and Grey

Given the significant market value of authentic Birdseye Maple, it remains an exclusive choice for high-tier projects, standing in stark contrast to more common man-made imitations.

Sapele

Item # : QSO-LGR011 | Finishing: High Glossy

Place of Origin: Africa

Description: Sapele is a large, straight-grained hardwood known for its fine-pored structure and high hardness. The heartwood exhibits a dynamic color range, transitioning from light pink to deep red, and eventually stabilizing into a rich mahogany-like reddish-brown upon exposure to light and air. While widely used in luxury furniture and musical instrument manufacturing, high-grade Sapele veneers are increasingly difficult to source. The rarity of top-tier logs ensures that finished products featuring clear, consistent Sapele grain remain highly exclusive and valued by collectors

Features: Natural structural and chromatic defects make Sapele one of the most demanding timbers to refine. The significant color disparity between the heartwood and the outer sapwood layers creates obstacles for consistent veneer slicing. Additionally, the irregular fiber orientation—typical of this species—presents a high risk of surface tearing, requiring specialized cutting techniques to ensure a high-definition, smooth finish.
